Depression is not a normal part of aging

senior4.JPG It is a myth that depression, bi-polar disorder and other mental illnesses are a part of the aging process. It is not normal for people of any age to suffer from these conditions; this includes people in their senior years.

Major depression and other disorders are a medical illness, a chemical imbalance in the brain which can appear in people regardless of age, race, or economic status. The illness can appear after a triggering event or for no apparent reason at all.

In a crisis, call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-855. Suicide Prevention Resources for Seniors
