Restoration of the specialized LGBTQ+ “Press 3” option

on the national Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

“On behalf of SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education, we are grateful to see

that the 988 suicide prevention and crisis hotline resumed its “Press 3” option on

September 30th. The “Press 3” option provides specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth

experiencing thoughts of suicide or emotional distress.”

“Data shows that LGBTQ+ youth are four times more likely to die by suicide than their

peers, and an estimated 1.8 million LGBTQ+ youth seriously consider suicide each year

in the United States. This data underscores how critical it is to have specialized support

for LGBTQ+ youth. We are grateful to the bipartisan lawmakers and advocates who

worked tirelessly to restore this lifesaving resource.”
